Assalam
Alaykum Dear Brothers and Sisters
I
hope and pray everyone is having a great morning and a nice day.
I
am posting today's Daily Reflection on the topic of Pride and Vanity,
its an important one as sometimes living in this society we can
easily become big headed and vain. InshaAllah if you find a Naseeha
in this, pleae make Du'a for me, I am in need of Dua's.
Allah
Tala said in Surah al-Ghafir verse 56 "There
is nothing else in their breasts except Pride"
Muslim
reported on the authority of Abdullah Ibn Masud (ra) that the
messanger of Allah (saw) said:
"Whoever
has in his heart an amount equal to the weight of an atom of 'KIBR'
(pride or arrogance) will not
enter paradise."
A
man inquired about whether a person who likes fine clothing and shoes
is considered among those who have pride? The prophet (saw) replied:
'Allah is beautiful and likes
beauty. However, KIBR means rediculing and rejecting Truth and
looking down on other people.'
As
for Vanity ('Ujb), its when a person looks at himself in
self-glorification such that he thinks he is at some 'next' level,
but he is actually not befiting of it. The difference between pride
and vanity is that vanity does not extend to others. So with vanity
he feels proud amongst teh ppl and when alone. However in hte case of
pride (kibr), he shows pride and arrognace over the people, and
rejects the truth as boasting over them... Pride and arrogance are
both Haraam.
At-Tirmizi, an-Nasaai and ibn Hibban in his
Saheeh reported a hadith which they graded as Sahih, on the authority
of Thawbaan Rasool Allah (saw) said:
'The
one who dies while free of pride, betrayal (in division of right
etc...) and debts will enter Jannah."
Al-Bukhari
in Adaab al-Mufrad and at-Tirmizi narrated a haidth on the authority
of Amr bin Shuhay that Rasool Allah (saw) said:
"The
proud will be raised on the day of judgement like seeds in the image
of men and they will be covered with humiliation from every
direction."
These
two ahadith show the importance of understanding Kibr and 'Ujb and
there implications and consequences. Its important that we reflect
and evaluate our actions on daily basis to identify signs of
arrogance, pride, vanity and remove them from our Shaksiyyah
(personality) and purify our Nafssiyah from such horrible
diseases.
Inshallah a beautiful quote we can reflect
upon:
"The one who
targets beyond the level, Allah will bring him down to his value. The
most valueable of people are those whose value is not seen, the most
virtuous amongst them are the ones whose virtue is not seen." ~Imaam
Ash-Shafi' (rh.A) - from Imam An-Nawawi's al-Majmoo'
