As we know, fasting is an act that is very dear to Allah SwT: Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger
as saying: Every (good) deed of the son of Adam would be multiplied, a
good deed receiving a tenfold to seven hundredfold reward. Allah, the
Exalted and Majestic, has said: With the exception of fasting, for
it is done for Me and I will give a reward for it, for one abandons his
passion and food for My sake. There are two occasions of joy for
one who fasts, joy when he breaks it, and joy when he meets his Lord,
and the breath (of an observer of fast) is sweeter to Allah than the
fragrance of musk.[Sahih Muslim] Muharram is known as Shahr-ullah (Month of Allah SwT) in the hadith. Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported that he (the Messenger of Allah )
was asked as to which prayer was most excellent after the prescribed
prayer, and which fast was most excellent after the month of Ramadhan.
He said: Prayer offered in the middle of the night and the most excellent fast after (fasting) in the month of Ramadan is the fast in God's month al-Muharram.[Sahih Muslim] Normally we have a habit of fasting only during the month of Ramadhan, so we should try to have some nawafil fasts also insha’Allah. And the reward we get for fasting—only Allah SwT knows, so we can’t even imagine how much it probably is, subhanAllah. Also, fasting in the winter is easy for us. The sun is out for less than half of the day and plus it’s winter—no heat, no thirst. And Rasulullah said: “Fasting during winter is a reward gained without difficulty.” [Tirmidhi]Allah's Apostle
said, "Allah said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility
to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved things with which
My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My
slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (praying
or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him,
so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of
sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg
with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks
My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; (i.e. give him My Refuge)
and I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of
the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to disappoint him." [Sahih Bukhari] May Allah SwT love all of us and give us His love. Ameen.
