Watch me bleed

I am one of your children,
Though I am the child you never knew and ever met

My name is Ahmad, Ayesha and Ibrahim
The names you chose to forget

I am the poor child wielding a single stone
Against the enemies threat

I am the battle cry of freedom
It echoes through my cell

I am the cry of liberty
Trying to maintain my identity

My home is an isolated camp
My home is a city of rage
My home is now invisible
Nothing but a microscopic stage

Oh Ummah, my heart is soaring
my chest is paining
my head is spinning
Why is justice failing?

Oh Ummah, I live in a place where fairness is denied
I live in a land where poverty is wide

I am the tears of mothers weeping for their dead sons
Baby Ibrahims who were just shot by AK47 guns

As I sit here alone
A thousand miles away
There is something I want to remind you
Some words I’ve got to say

The same moon that shines down on to you
Casts its beautiful glow on me too

The stars looked through the sky
Twinkle at me, just as they might at you.

The air you breathe
I breathe as well

The breeze that passes through your window
Passed by me as I sit in this lonely cell

I am the blueprint of your future
I am the sequel of your past
I am your sister and brother in Islam
Can you not see the sad contrast?

Allahu Akbar a mother cries
Allah is indeed great a father sighs
A child sits beside his dead brother as he says his goodbyes
Where is the ummah? No replies

Remove the bandage from your eye
Distinguish between the vicious lie
Don’t just sit there and watch us die.

For my name is Ahmad
For my name is Fatima
For my name is Ibrahim
So don’t speak to me of justice and ways of a dictator
Speak to me of mercy and the oneness of our creator

So you see ……
As I stand here in my cell
About to say my farewells
My tiny cheeks are stained with tears
As I cry my final prayers

‘Do as I tell you!!’ an army soldier shouts at me with ease

I end my prayers and say: ‘’I’d rather die on my feet, than live on my knees’'.
